Politics and culture, cultural politics. They make the world go round. And that is what I’ll be posting ideas about in this space. I hope my posts will stimulate many conversations. I look forward to adding my voice to those who care about what is happening all around us, whether in our own communities or communities around the world. Stay tuned!
In 2012, Carmen Aguirre won the CBC Canada Reads contest, the first time it was ever held for non-fiction. Many of you helped to make that happen. While her book, Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter, stayed on the Canadian best seller list for a long time after that, and thousands of books were sold, Carmen was hit hard by her publisher’s bankruptcy later that year. Of all the authors who lost royalties, Carmen Aguirre was hit the hardest. I’m appealing to everyone out there to read the information below and to consider purchasing a ticket to a fundraiser — or Gran Malón — being held on Carmen’s behalf.
So that’s the story for today, take a look!
